Inglês com música - Red hot chili peppers - Otherside

Tuesday Nov 11, 2008

Hi, folks. Nice to be here with you again. This time I’d like to invite you have a frank conversation about a very important topic in terms of learning English as a foreign or as a second language. It’s about the “ENROLÊS” factor.

I really hope you take the best of it.
Teacher Laurindo

This activity aims at understanding and speaking proficiency in English language.

“ENROLÊS” is a Brazilian word to refer to both false promisses and qualities on the part of the language courses and schools so as to fool those who really want to learn English.

Students who attend such schools or courses run the risk of not learning English at all. And by the time they try to put their knowledge into practice, instead they make a real confusion and make a goof (pagar o mico).

So today’s “Inglês com música” is going to pinpoint some vital aspects to take into consideration when chosing a language school to learn a new language. You should recognize these three process stages in a good English school:

(1) - Comprehension: The students learn to understand what is said in English and to reply to it in Portuguese, showing that they have understood, but still lack vocabulary or are not comfortable replying in English;
(2) - Verbal expression: The phase in which the students mix both languages together in sentences. What happens is that some words become fixed in one language more than in the other, so the students tend to work with those they already know and with which they feel more comfortable.
(3) - Structure: At this stage the students are able to form sentences, without mixing English and Portuguese. Here, they know that they are able to communicate in both languages and when each one should be used.

So if in terms of learning English as a second or foreign language you do not reach this goals, you probably had attended to an “ENROLÊS” school instead of a really good English school.

Now let me show a situation in which someone has learned “ENROLÊS” instead of real English. In fact what he’s trying to do is to “make a fool of” / ENROLAR everyone.

I hope this activity can help you decide whether to study at an English school or at an “Enrolês” school and go around “making a goof” / “pagando um mico” by the time you try to show your knowledge. It’s up to you.
Good luck!

Teacher Laurindo

So, how did you like this new activity? I hope you enjoyed it very much. I’m looking forward to being with you next time.

Teacher Laurindo

Support song:

Other side
(Red Hot Chili Peppers)

“How long how long will I slide
Separate my side I don’t
I don’t believe it’s bad
Slittin’ my throat
It’s all I ever

I heard your voice through a photograph
I thought it up it brought up the past
Once you know you can never go back
I’ve got to take it on the otherside

Centuries are what it meant to me
A cemetery where I marry the sea
Stranger things could never change my mind
I’ve got to take it on the otherside
Take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on

How long how long will I slide
Separate my side I don’t
I don’t believe it’s bad
Slittin’ my throat
It’s all I ever

Pour my life into a paper cup
The ashtray’s full and I’m spillin’ my guts
She wants to know am I still a slut
I’ve got to take it on the otherside

Scarlet starlet and she’s in my bed
A candidate for my soul mate bled
Push the trigger and pull the thread
I’ve got to take it on the otherside
Take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on

How long how long will I slide
Separate my side I don’t
I don’t believe it’s bad
Slittin’ my throat
It’s all I ever

Turn me on take me for a hard ride
Burn me out leave me on the otherside
I yell and tell it that
It’s not my friend
I tear it down I tear it down
And then it’s born again

How long how long will I slide
Separate my side I don’t
I don’t believe it’s bad
Slittin’ my throat
It’s all I ever

How long I don’t believe it’s bad
Slit my throat
It’s all I ever”

Kim Possible Intro (Brazilian Portuguese)

Wednesday Nov 5, 2008

Brazilian Portuguese intro of Kim Possible.
That’s the lyrics:
Sou garota e sou legal,
O mundo eu vou livrar do mal,
não me pare, que eu sou
Kim Possible.
Não há nada a temer,
se o perigo surge,
eu sempre vou te socorrer.

Não importa onde, ou quando
Se há problema é só me chamar,
Kim Possible.

Chama, liga, que eu sou tua amiga,
Quando precisar é só dizer,
Eu tô sempre disponível,
Chama, liga, que eu sou tua amiga.
(Chama, liga, que eu sou tua amiga)

A qualquer momento,
Em qualquer lugar, (Em qualquer lugar)
eu tô sempre pronta pra te ajudar,
Risco ou Problema,
Eu tô no esquema,
Você pode sempre chamar,
Kim Possible.
(Qual é o problema?)
Chama, liga, que eu sou tua amiga.

If you watch it, comment it!
